The Western Canada WEA Board of Directors kicked off the new year with our annual planning meeting in January. We were fortunate to have our entire board in person where there we could reflect on 2023 and look forward to our ambitions for 2024 and beyond. Guided by the strategic plan our board developed in 2023, we focused on our three critical goals:

  • Creating value for members;
  • Developing a volunteer base; and
  • Building our brand.

First and foremost, the primary objective of our board is to serve our members. As our mission states, our aim is to connect water professionals and leverage knowledge to enhance the water environment in Wester Canada. In order to successfully achieve this goal, we require active volunteers. We can’t do this alone. As we look to gain momentum with in-person events, I hope you will consider using some of your time and knowledge to contribute to our diverse water community. And we look forward to continuing to build our brand to help those in the water community understand who we are and the services we can provide.

While our efforts were dedicated to how to best serve our members, we found some time to enjoy good company and good food – be sure to ask Natalie Wilson and Alec Mackenzie about their epic Mexican cauldron feast!

One of the most exciting aspects of our planning meeting was ironing out the first details of the Canadian Residuals and Biosolids Conference that we are hosting in 2025. This prestigious event brings together the top experts, seasoned professionals, and lessons learned from the field, addressing the most pressing issues and novel innovations in the wastewater community. Chaired by our own Lin Watt, Manitoba Trustee, I am confident this will not be an event to miss. If you would like to volunteer or learn more about Western Canada WEA, please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or your provincial trustee.
